Have you heard that you owe God? That you need to give this offering, or sow that seed, or pay that mandatory percentage, else, God would send the devourer after you? Some also think that you owe God some requirements of the law in order to obtain his righteousness, or merit some favours from him.
Do you know that the gospel is good news and that our God is better than that? Here is the truth: You do not owe God anything.
The Bible says, God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Here, we see that God is the one that gives. James calls him the giving God, and not the demanding one. He gives liberally without finding fault. He gives without conditions.
James 1:17-18 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. 18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
Can you see that? God is the one that gives. And he has given humanity his very best: himself, by his Spirit. He did this in not sparing his own Son, that we too might become the sons of God. What manner of love!
The Bible says in this God demonstrated his love: that while we were without strength, when we did not have anything to give to him, when we could not qualify to come to him, Christ died for us (Romans 5:6,8). That we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21) and have access in the very presence of God forever.
This is our God. He is the giver. All he is asking you is to receive the life he has given you, without any hidden conditions.
You do not owe God. God paid it all in Christ!
You may ask, how do I receive this God’s offer of life.
It is simple. The Bible says,
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:9-10).
This is good news. This is the gospel.
