What must I do to be saved?

The man without Christ by the reason of sin and unbelief is death-doomed. Scripture says that the soul that sins shall die. Humanity irrespective of tribe, tongue or creed have this consciousness of a void within in that only God can fill. The preacher says eternity is in the heart of man! (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Here is the good news. God has made a way of escape for man. You can be saved from sin and its consequence which is death – eternal separation from God. That void and emptiness can be filled and satisfied by God himself.

The question then arises, “What must I do to be saved? What should I do to inherit eternal life?” Men have asked this question in one form or another for ages. They have always thought that it is about their performance, their ability to perfectly perform certain rituals or keep certain codes of behaviour.

In the Bible, we see many people at different times ask this question. Jesus was asked this question severally (Matthew 19:16; Mark 10:17; Luke 10:25; Luke 18:18; John 6:28). Also, the Apostles in the book of Acts were asked this question (Acts 2:37; Acts 16:30).

The answer to this all-important question can be found in the words of Jesus, which the Apostles re-echoed. It is not about what you must do. It is about whom you must believe in!

Jesus says, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.” (John 6:29 NLT).

Salvation is by grace through faith in what God accomplished in Christ for us in his death, burial, and resurrection. We are saved by putting our faith in Christ, and in his finished work. It is not of human efforts, lest anyone should boast (Romans 3:28; Ephesians 2:8-9).

Salvation is found in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12 NIV).

In putting it another way, here is the answer to the question: Nothing. Only believe!

It is this simple. The Bible says:
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:9-10).

If you have believed and confessed this statement of faith above, you are saved and forever safe. You have escaped from death to life!

Congratulations!

This is good news. This is the gospel.
