Parable of the Unjust Judge (Luke 18:1-8)

An example of misapplication of the parables of Jesus is the story of the widow and the wicked judge.

The story is about a widow who repeatedly called upon a judge to protect her. Jesus said this judge never feared God neither did he have regards for anyone. Initially, this judge was not willing to attend to this widow. However, in the course of time, he eventually gave in due to the widow’s persistent disturbance.

Now here is it; the widow does not represent believers and God is not that wicked judge. The lesson is that if a wicked man can be touched to attend to a widow who had no relationship or any advantage with him, much more would our heavenly Father attend to every requests made by His children at all times.

It is not about us tiring God out with much words or many petitions to push Him to a tight corner where he has no other option but to answer us. It is not a comparison of God with the wicked judge but a contrast to emphasize the truth that if wicked men, how much more the liberal God who gives without reproach or finding fault; more so, to His children.

Notice how Jesus ended this story. He asked a question, “However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” So the main issue in this story is about having faith in God. The Bible encourages us to cast our cares upon Him for He cares for us ( ‎Psalm 55:22; 1 Peter 5:7). Do not lose heart. Trust God and relax even in the face of seemingly relentless and contradictory situations, knowing that He hears you. He is your Father.
